Rochester Hills was first settled by European Americans in 1817 and organized as Avon Township in 1835. The City of Rochester incorporated in 1967 while Rochester Hills was established in 1984.

On Saturday, at least nine people were shot at a recreation area in Rochester Hills. A suspect is currently contained at a home surrounded by police.
