Bart Verbruggen Named Netherlands' First-Choice Goalkeeper for Euros
Young Dutch shot-stopper earns starting nod ahead of tournament
Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has been named the Netherlands' first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming European Championship, coach Ronald Koeman announced on Sunday.
Verbruggen, 21, has been in impressive form for Brighton Hove Albion this season, keeping seven clean sheets in 25 Premier League appearances.
The youngster has also impressed at international level, making his debut for the Netherlands in a friendly against Scotland in November 2022.
Koeman praised Verbruggen's "outstanding" performances and said he was "the right man for the job" at the Euros.
"Bart has shown great maturity and composure in goal for both Brighton and the Netherlands," Koeman said. "He is a young player with a lot of potential, and I believe he has the ability to be a top goalkeeper for many years to come."
Verbruggen will be the youngest goalkeeper to start for the Netherlands at a major tournament since Edwin van der Sar in 1996.
